Nylon Fibres
Nylon has found extensive use in fibre products since its original commercialisation in the 1940s / 1950s in industrial / military applications. Since its introduction nylon has been used extensively in the textile and carpet sectors, in both filament and staple forms, as well as growing steadily in broader industrial uses.
In 2010 total nylon fibre production reached 3652ktes of which textile filament represented 38%, industrial filament 30%, carpet filament 23% and staple fibres 9%, mainly for the carpets sector.
